Primary Children’s Hospital

As the only full-service children’s hospital in the Intermountain West, Primary Children’s Hospital personifies the mantra, “The Child First and Always.” The hospital’s 289 beds cradle the most critically ill and injured children. Covering a geographic area of more than 400,000 square miles—the largest area of any children’s hospital in the U.S—Primary serves children from Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Nevada and Alaska.

Primary Children’s is a Level I pediatric trauma center and cares for children with complex illness and injury, including organ transplants and complex birth defects. Primary has 800 pediatric providers, supported by a staff exceeding 3,000, serving in more than 60 medical and surgical pediatric specialties. Primary is ranked among the Best Children's Hospitals in the Nation.

From a child-centered playroom and colorful artwork on the walls, the hospital is designed specifically for children. A meditation chapel, music therapy program, parent resource center and interpretation services are available to make the hospital experience as comfortable as possible.

For nearly 100 years, the charity care program at Primary Children’s Hospital has ensured that every child receives the best medical care possible, regardless of ability to pay. Whether a child comes to the hospital for a bone marrow transplant, heart surgery, a newborn intensive care stay, genetic disease or a simple outpatient checkup, each child is placed first in the hearts and minds of all who walk the halls of Primary Children’s Hospital.
